Founder, CEO, Energy Executive
Ms. Christie-Burns is a successful energy entrepreneur, founding two companies within the last fifteen
years. Over Heather’s twenty-five-year career as a professional engineer she has developed expertise in
mergers and acquisitions, negotiations, capital allocation and budgeting, subsurface engineering and oil
and gas production operations. Her most recent role was President and CEO of High Ground Energy Inc.,
a private Alberta-based Company, which was sold in July 2019. Prior to this role, Heather co-founded
and was President and Chief Operating Officer of Angle Energy Inc., an Alberta-based exploration and
producing company which went public via IPO in 2008 and was sold in 2013 for $576 million CAD.
Heather is a mentor for both technical and financial professionals in the energy industry and has been
recognized as a Top 40 Under 40 by Avenue Calgary, as a rising star by Oilweek, and as one of Canada’s
Top 100 Most Powerful Women of 2018 in the CIBC “Trailblazers and Trendsetters” Category by the
Women’s Executive Network. She was appointed in 2019 to the University of Calgary’s Board of
Governors, and as an independent board member of Interface Fluidics in 2020.
Heather’s interests and areas of focus currently are in industry to industry collaborations, energy
technologies, and GHG emissions reduction projects.
Ms. Christie-Burns is an alumna of the University of Calgary with an undergraduate degree in Chemical
Engineering. She is a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) and the Association of
Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA).
